For the 2026 tax year, people who take the standard deduction may deduct qualifying cash donations to eligible charities: up to $1,000, or $2,000 for married couples filing jointly. This is a deduction from taxable income—not a dollar-for-dollar tax credit. Eligibility rules and donation records apply. Donations to donor-advised funds and supporting organizations, and noncash gifts, do not qualify for this specific deduction. Consult your tax advisor about your circumstances.
